-- TO MY FRIENDS --
The more we dedicate ourselves
to helping our friend's to develop and grow,
the more "treasures of the heart"
we boundlessly accumulate
and adorn our lives with.
For the sake of the happiness
of both ourselves and others,
let's strengthen our solidarity of encouragement!

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Though we may suffer for a while, ultimately delight awaits us. It is like the case of a crown prince, the only son of the king. Consider this: How can he possibly fail to ascend the throne?"

(Protecting the Atsuhara Believers
- WND, Vol. II, page 882)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"In a letter filled with deep compassion, the Daishonin writes to the lay nun Ueno, the mother of Nanjo Tokimitsu: 'The benefit of all the other sutras [excluding the Lotus Sutra] is uncertain, because they teach that one must first make good causes and only then can one become a Buddha at some later time' (WND-1, 1099).

"The pre–Lotus Sutra scriptures teach that we must first make good causes in our present life to enjoy good rewards in the next, or that our suffering in this life is due to negative karma from past existences and we must therefore accumulate good causes now so we can attain Buddhahood in our next lifetime.

"In contrast, Nichiren Buddhism is the teaching of true cause;[1] it focuses on the present and the future. The Daishonin says: 'With regard to the Lotus Sutra, when one's hand takes it up, that hand immediately attains Buddhahood, and when one's mouth chants it, that mouth is itself a Buddha' (WND-1, 1099). 'Lotus Sutra,' here, refers to the Daishonin's Lotus Sutra—namely, Nam-myoho-renge-kyo of the Three Great Secret Laws.[2]

"Your hands when pressed together in prayer as you chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo before the Gohonzon immediately attain Buddhahood, as does your mouth when you chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and talk to others about the Mystic Law. When you study Nichiren Buddhism with a sincere and seeking heart and, moved by what you learn, joyfully share it with others, your mind becomes sharper and more insightful through the 'power of the Buddha' being activated in your life.

"In this way, our faith manifests itself directly and clearly in our lives, work, circumstances, and environment. Nichiren Buddhism teaches that we can attain Buddhahood in this lifetime."

SGI Newsletter No. 9491, SGI President Ikeda's Speech Excerpts, from 16th Nov., 2016, issue of the Seikyo Shimbun, translation released 18th Nov., 2016

[1] True cause: Also, mystic principle of the true cause. Nichiren Buddhism directly expounds the true cause for enlightenment as Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, which is the Law of life and the universe. It teaches a way of Buddhist practice of always moving forwards from this moment on, based on this fundamental Law.

[2] Three Great Secret Laws are the core principles of the Daishonin's teaching. They are the object of devotion of the essential teaching, the daimoku of the essential teaching, and the sanctuary of the essential teaching. The Law of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo embodies all three.
