-- TO MY FRIENDS --
To share Buddhism with others
is the most sacred undertaking
to activate and nurture the Buddha nature
within both ourselves and others.*
With the passionate dream of achieving kosen-rufu
always in our hearts,
let's reach out to our friends
full of bright optimism!

*Nichiren Daishoni explains a key Buddhist principle--the "Buddha nature manifests itself from within, it will receive protection from without."  In other words, when we activate the Buddha nature inside us, it will cause the protective functions of life to work externally.  We possess this Buddha nature, and it is up to us to awaken to and manifest it... When someone is in trouble, we cannot simply look the other way.  When someone appears to be struggling, we cannot help offering encouragement.  When someone is suffering, we cannot help embracing them.  Believing in the potential of all people, we actively pursue positive and meaningful interactions. (Learning from Nichiren's Writings: The Teachings for Victory by Daisaku Ikeda, "The Three Kinds of Treasure")

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"And you demons, by making this man suffer, are you trying to swallow a sword point first, or embrace a raging fire, or become the archenemy of the Buddhas of the ten directions in the three existences? How terrible this will be for you!"

(The Proof of the Lotus Sutra
- WND, Vol. I, page 1109)

"Keeping promises enables us to build solid friendships. A true friend is a person who extends a helping hand when someone is in need."
