-- TO MY FRIENDS --
This is the Buddhism of
the lotus flower that blooms
with unsullied purity in the muddy pond.
Our present day world is like
a swamp or chaotic morass
but this is where we can create the causes
for magnificent blooms of victory to blossom.
It's right where we are
that we take on the noble challenge
as Bodhisattvas of the Earth!

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Arouse deep faith, and diligently polish your mirror day and night. How should you polish it? Only by chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo."

- WND,  Vol. I, page 4)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"We of the SGI, united by the bonds of mentor and disciple, are not daunted by the onslaughts of obstacles or hardships that the Daishonin warned would arise. For we have deeply and firmly engraved in our hearts a passage from 'The Opening of the Eyes,' a writing he composed in the midst of life-threatening persecution:

"'Although I and my disciples may encounter various difficulties, if we do not harbour doubts in our hearts, we will as a matter of course attain Buddhahood. Do not have doubts simply because heaven does not lend you protection. Do not be discouraged because you do not enjoy an easy and secure existence in this life. . . . Foolish men are likely to forget the promises they have made when the crucial moment comes.' (WND-1, 283)

"Because we do not forget our promises 'when the crucial moment comes,' we can show actual proof of our Buddhist practice by attaining Buddhahood 'as a matter of course.' This is the realm of a 'Soka Gakkai Buddha.'"

SGI Newsletter No. 9489, SGI President Ikeda's Editorial, Lead Winning Lives as Champions of Optimism and Fortitude, from the December 2016 issue of the Daibyakurenge, translation released 15th Nov., 2016
